Doroghazi Eagle Scout Award Announced In the 100th anniversary year of the Eagle Scout Award, past Great Rivers Council President and Distinguished Eagle Scout Dr. Robert M. Doroghazi and the Great Rivers Council has established a new recognition for area Eagle Scouts. This award is to recognize Eagle Scouts for their hard work, thrift and continued success as they enter adult life. Special consideration is given to those who will be tomorrow’s leaders in medicine, law, business, engineering, the physical and biological sciences as well as service in the United States Armed Forces. The Great Rivers Council is proud to announce this year’s three recipients of the inaugural class of the Doroghazi Eagle Scout Award. Each recipient will receive $10,000. Evan Cameron received his undergraduate and medical degree from the University of Missouri, where he was valedictorian and elected to the AOA Honorary Medical Fraternity. He is currently a captain in the U.S. Army. Todd Gingrich graduated from California Institute of Technology with honors and received his Masters from University of Oxford while on a Rhodes scholarship. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in Theoretical Chemistry at the University of California-Berkeley. Andrew Reiff earned his Eagle Scout Rank at age 13 and completed 73 merit badges. He received his degree from State Fair Community College and is the owner of Reiff Duct Cleaning and Sanitizing. A dinner to honor the award winners will be on Friday, August 10, 2012 at the University Club, Reynolds Alumni Center. The evening will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. and followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Competition was intense with a total of 118 applicants. 10 percent were chosen as finalists. Notable achievements of the entire group of applicants included 12 high school valedictorians, 17 who received academic honors at college graduation and nine others who served in the Armed Forces. Looking forward to next year, there is no limitation on the number of times an Eagle Scout can apply for this award. We encourage Eagle Scouts to re-apply if they were a previous finalist or if there is a significant change in their careers, such as graduation, acceptance to a graduate or professional school, a promotion, or a significant honor or distinction. |
